IUI Pregnancy Test Results

October 12, 2018

The day has come. The two week wait was over and it was time for our IUI Beta test.  Before I get into it, I want to quickly recap our fertility journey so far.

We started a combo IUI cycle which included Clomid and Gonal-F injections. We were dealing with strictly Male Factor Infertility (MFI) as a result from Retrograde Ejaculation (a condition where the sperm goes backwards into the bladder instead of outward upon ejaculation).

Clomid and Gonal-F Injections

Clomid was a relatively easy medication to take. I didn’t have many side effects from it at first until a few days in. My lower abdomen felt bloated and had pressure. Gonal-F injections were very easy to take (for me, as I’m not afraid of needles), and the only side effect I did experience was added pressure and twinges.

Ovidrel Trigger Shot

I was instructed to take the Trigger shot on a Wednesday at 10:15pm. My trigger shot was Ovidrel 250. IUI was scheduled for that following Friday at 10:15am.

How Long Does the Trigger Shot Stay in your System?

The trigger shot does contain the pregnancy hormone HCG, so testing early can give you a false positive test. Most doctors say to wait the full 14 days past IUI to test, but I couldn’t help myself.

I had several cheapies from Amazon that I tested my trigger shot out with. I started testing one day past trigger and tested every morning since. As you can see, the shot was out of my system completely by 8 days past trigger. Depending on the dosage, the trigger shot can take up to 10 days to leave the system.

Our IUI Pregnancy Beta Results

Unfortunately, our IUI cycle had failed. Our numbers were incredibly low (400,000 post-wash) so we weren’t exactly in the running for a win. We’re currently talking to our Embryologist and the Cryobank to see where the mishap had happened because of the conflicting number reports. We were told we had a couple million motile sperm per vial from the Cryobank, but we ended up with 400,000 post-wash from using 3 of the 7 vials.

My beta came back at 0. I was kind of expecting it, considering I had been testing at home, but it still hurt to hear it confirmed by the blood work. Infertility is a bitch.

Moving Forward

We are not going to let this IUI get us down. I do believe there is a plan in store for us and we will get to start our family, one way or the other. I wanted to share this experience regardless of the outcome because I know reading other people’s stories had helped me tremendously.

Infertility can make you feel isolated and alone. My goal with my blog and our journey is to show that you’re not alone in this journey and hopefully our story can bring someone some peace of mind.

Our Story Continues

We are moving forward with our Infertility Treatments. This time, we’re really going to be documenting our story on our YouTube channel.
